Gomoku Rules

Basic Rules

Gomoku is played on a grid board. Two players take turns placing black and white stones. The first player to get five stones in a row — horizontally, vertically, or diagonally — wins.

Forbidden Moves (Renju)

In Renju rules, the black player (who goes first) has restrictions to balance the first-move advantage.

• × Double Three: Black cannot place a stone that simultaneously creates two open threes.
• × Double Four: Black cannot place a stone that simultaneously creates two fours.
• × Overline: Black cannot place a stone that creates six or more in a row.
